- [Instructor] Data center bridging is used for extending storage to a server using enhancements to the ethernet protocol. It assists in stopping packet loss when we extend our storage using clustering, or attaching the SAN using iSCSI. Using TCP/IP, TCP is the connection oriented protocol that we use. But sometimes we need something more to prevent packet loss. So, data center bridging was created and has become an IEEE standard worldwide. Its main goal is to extend ethernet from the server to the storage device without losing packets. In order to make this work we need to install a switch that is 802.1p capable, and that will work together with our Windows Server. We then install data center bridging on our 2016 or 2019 Server, and then the switch and server work together for quality of service to prevent packet loss.
