vSphere Distributed Switch review

vSphere Distributed Switch review

- [Instructor] Okay, so let's take a few moments to do a review of some of the concepts that we've learned about the vSphere Distributed Switch thus far. The vSphere Distributed Switch is managed centrally using vCenter. vCenter is the control plane for the vSphere Distributed Switch. The data plane is made up of hidden virtual switches that are created on all of the hosts that are participating in that vSphere Distributed Switch. So the centralized configuration is stored in vCenter. That centralized configuration is then distributed to all of my ESXI hosts in the form of hidden virtual switches. Once that's done, I can start creating my distributed port groups. Those distributed port groups can span many hosts, and I can ensure that every host is going to have an identical configuration because the same configuration is pushed out to all of my hosts. But VMkernel ports are a different story. VMkernel ports still need to be configured on an individual host-by-host basis because…
