- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about some concepts of fiber channel over Ethernet and how it can be used to provide data stores for our ESXi hosts. So here we see a diagram of a fiber channel over Ethernet storage array and the network associated with it. And again, fiber channel over Ethernet is really just one of the many possible storage options that we can choose from to create data stores. And it's very similar to fiber channel. The only thing that really changes is the network. You can still boot an ESXi host from a fiber channel over Ethernet SAN. You can still create raw device mappings, and the file system is still going to be VMFS. So when we create a data store on a fiber channel over Ethernet storage array, it's going to be a VMFS data store. So let's remove our ESXi host from this diagram for the moment and just focus on the storage array components and the network. And on the storage array itself, nothing really changes.
