Evaluating candidates from a distance
- The most crucial step you will take in evaluating candidates is in your hiring manager intake process meeting. This is where many recruiters experience push back. You are the expert here, and you are asking questions and guiding the hiring manager through the process. When you get good at this, your strategy will come more naturally to you. A good hiring intake session gives you the following information. What the candidate must have. All jobs require a baseline skillset. You need to know what that is. Does the candidate need to have leadership experience? Perhaps a specific license? Foundational education? Where they will not compromise. Perhaps we won't hire anyone with less than three years experience, but maybe we can't hire out of state for a role for legal reasons, or perhaps we can't hire from a competitor's firm because of industry standards.
