Backing up data
- [Narrator] To help reduce the chances for data loss, it's always a good idea to have backups, but designing and using a backup isn't a one size fits all kind of thing. So there's a couple of different approaches to backing up information that we need to consider. What's most important to keep in mind is the strategy and philosophy of backing up information. We want information to be safe from loss and that loss can be physical rather than just digital so it's critical to keep a copy of important information in a separate physical location than the original data in case something terrible happens to your office or data center and damages all of the hardware. It's no good to only have a backup in the same bag as the laptop if the bag gets stolen. And to guard against digital loss like accidental erasure or even ransomware, a backup should also be disconnected from the network or the internet. Of course, we'll need to update this backup. So periodically, we'll need to bring the backup…
