Configure a time synchronization server
- [Instructor] It's important for a system to know what time it is. And in order to keep systems all on the same page when it comes to the current date and time, we use a protocol called NTP, or Network Time Protocol. Systems get their time from NTP servers which keep consensus on what the current time is. NTP servers are organized in what are called strata, or layers, numbered by their network distance from stratum one, which are the computers attached directly to very accurate clocks, like atomic clocks, GPS clocks, and so on, which provide an authoritative time. Organizations can run these stratum zero systems on their own, but most people don't have the resources or need to do so, and so they use public time servers instead. Time is a funny thing when it comes to computers.
