- [Instructor] Sometimes, you need to upgrade hardware to provide more resources for a system. Physical servers sometimes limit our ability to add new hardware and while we can often add more storage to a physical server, and sometimes we can add more RAM, it's difficult to add more process power for example. Sometimes, adding RAM is impractical if we're out of slots on the board. Small virtual machines are a lot more flexible in this regard, though if you're running a VM on a limited resource machine, like a laptop, there's no much you can do about hardware resources outside of giving the VM more systems resources. It can't expand beyond the physical limitations of the system. If you're using a machine with a lot of resources though, usually you can expand the VM's resources to allow more RAM, processor cores or storage by changing those settings in the hypervisor's configuration area up to whatever the maximum available to you on that host machine is.
