Installing Linux in a virtual machine

- [Instructor] When an operating system is installed into a virtual environment it operates in a separated space, consuming some of the host computer's resources, but otherwise staying pretty much apart from the operating system and the file system of the host machine. There are various software packages you can use to virtualize an operating system, including offerings from VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and a popular one that I like to use because it's free, called VirtualBox. VirtualBox is available to download from virtualbox.org, and there are installers for all major platforms. In this course I'll be using Ubuntu Desktop, and I've downloaded the .iso disk image file from ubuntu.com. If you haven't downloaded these files and installed VirtualBox, take a few minutes now to do that. Once you have everything in place, it's time to install Ubuntu into a virtual machine.
