- With our account all set up, we are ready to send our first message. But before we do that, let's talk a little bit about, what even is a message? So I've got an Android phone here. And on it, I've got an app called Messages, and I can use that app to send a text message to anyone in my contact book. And not to brag, but I've got some friends who have iPhones, and they've got an app on their phone called iMessage. And my message gets to them, and it looks pretty much the same way as it does when I sent it, even though they have a different phone. And also, they're most likely on a different carrier than I am. The reason why we could communicate like this, is because the message is sent using a protocol named SMS or Short Message Service. Short in this case means 160 characters, 160 characters?
