Lead with positivity
- There's a rapidly growing area of research supporting the importance of positivity at work. When more positivity is experienced good things happen, more productivity, more voice, and creativity, more persistence in the face of challenge, longer tenures, and many other valued outcomes. To be clear, no one is advocating for uncritical nonstop positivity. Sometimes versions of being positive are used as a way to avoid difficult conversations. That's generally not good. Some amount of principled negativity in the form of candor, critical comments, and expressions of concern or disagreement are good and normal. The goal is to be sure the balance between positivity and negativity clearly leans towards positivity.
