- It is true that over the years, we've identified many of the things leaders do to positively impact performance. A few of them are classics you've heard of, and a few might surprise you a little. But for all of these examples, my goal is the same: to share a very actionable perspective that helps you move forward. I'm going to ask you to think about how you conduct yourself as a person, including topics such as embracing your imperfections, being an example, and leading with positivity. We're also going to reconsider how you engage a few of the most basic things leaders do, such as collaborating and making decisions and knowing how to pick your battles at work. Now, a lot of people think a course about effective leadership must talk about setting goals and expectations, right? Not really. Goal setting and performance management are absolutely essential parts of leading, but they aren't really complex. They are tasks you will learn. You'll find courses from me and from many other qualified experts that address that area of leading. But what's far more interesting is the context a leader creates that determines how much people will engage at work. It's the behaviors that speak to relationships and team culture that ultimately differentiate good teams from great teams. I do admit there are more than 10 things one should do to lead effectively, but not all of those behaviors have the same impact. So let's start focusing right now on the ones that matter the most.
