- [Voiceover] Let me ask you a question. Do you like doing long division by hand? Neither do I. The good news is that when you take the GRE, you'll be able to use an onscreen calculator during the math sections. So in this video I'll give you the basics of using the calculator, along with a few tips. The first thing I would say is even though you have a calculator, you shouldn't overuse is. I don't think you should use the calculator for things that you can quickly do on paper or in your head, unless you'd know you are prone to careless mistakes. I give this advice because keying in simple problems into the calculator can actually take longer than just doing them. The calculator can only do simple math. Nothing other than addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and square roots. The calculator does understand PEMDAS, which is an acronym for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction, better known as "order of operations." This means that…
