- Whether you're exploring different career possibilities for your first job or wanting to change jobs, this course will provide an overview of the exciting information technology opportunities in local government. It will cover careers that exist now and new emerging roles, and some tips on increasing the chances of success should you decide to take the next step. Hi, I'm Jonathan Reichental. I've been working in technology for over 25 years. Over the last five years I've been a government IT leader at the city of Palo Alto, California. I've also had the opportunity to work with city governments all over the world. With significant challenges and increased demands being placed on our societies by a host of issues that range from aging infrastructure to energy needs, from transportation problems to the threat of climate change, local governments have never been more essential. They ensure vital public services are available and maintained, that laws are created and enforced, and that our cities increase the opportunity for a high quality of life for all constituents. Technology is vital to power these services and to provide government staff with the tools necessary to be successful. For people interested in a technology job in a city setting, the future has never been brighter. I'm passionate about the public sector and technology, and I'm excited to tell you all about it.
