课程: Strategies to Foster Inclusive Language at Work

Inclusive language

- Let's talk about inclusive language. When it comes to language at work, you may be afraid of saying the wrong thing and sounding racist or sexist or otherwise biased, or you might be worried that you'll use a word that causes someone else pain or hurts their feelings. I'm Dr. Suzanne Wertheim, I'm a former Professor of Linguistic Anthropology. Now I'm an anti-biased researcher and consultant, specializing in language and bias at work. I talk to a lot of people who are looking for a straightforward list of linguistic do's and don'ts. They say things like, just tell me the words I shouldn't use and the words I should use in their place. I wish it was that simple. In this course, you're going to learn that language changes and what's acceptable today may be unacceptable in just a few years. So instead of a list of bad words and good substitutes, we're going to go deeper. By the end of this course, you'll have a new toolkit that will allow you to evaluate language on your own. Along with a few high impact changes to your language that you can start implementing right away. So let's get started.
