The power and dynamics of projection

The power and dynamics of projection

- Okay, so now that we've explored the creation of a multi-view orthographic using a simple bird house, it's time to get serious. Let's apply what we've covered so far, something in the design realm, such as a piece of furniture. We'll use Alvar Aalto's classic three legged stool, also known as Stool 60, from 1933, as our first example, and then I'll develop a chair completely from scratch. One of the reasons I'm using Aalto's classic stool is that it's still very basic geometry. Circles, cylinders, arcs and straight lines. But there's one aspect that will force us to contend with some of the subtleties, as well as power of orthographic projection, and that's the fact that two of the legs are rotated away from any of the standard six views or six sides of the box. This of course, is not a problem, but an opportunity to see how orthographic projection can deal with it. What do I mean exactly by geometry that's rotated away from any of the standard six views? Well, let's go back to the…
