- [Instructor] Security has a lot of configuration options and these options can affect many levels, from network services to web servers, databases and more. As a developer, you have control on the security of your application but you should be aware of security at all other levels. Let's look at a common security option TLS, or as we know it, HTTPS. By default, the HTTP protocol is sending plain text over the network. This means that an attacker with a network sniffer can read passwords and other sensitive information directly from the network. HTTPS adds an encryption layer over the traffic, make it close to impossible to read the data with a sniffer. Sadly, about 25% of all sites still do not use HTTPS.
