By now, you've completed my prerequisite courses, so you are probably pretty used to my voice and you have a sense of my favorite topics to talk about. Yes, one of them is the BRFSS Dataset, which we will be using in this course series as the demonstration dataset. Remember, in the prerequisite course, Designing Big Data Healthcare Studies, Part One, I told you what a cross-sectional study was? To recap, cross-sectional studies are done at one point in time and can measure multiple variables, exposure, outcomes, and confounders, all at once. Surveys are examples of cross-sectional studies. I also mentioned that government surveillance surveys are cross-sectional. I talked about a couple from the United States, and in this course series, we will focus on one of them, the Behavioral Risk Factor surveillance System, or BRFSS for short.
