- It's spring time and our thoughts turn to gardens. What better time then to look for ways to put a Raspberry Pi to good use? This week, let's rig up a soil moisture sensor to make sure our plants are getting enough water. Hi, I'm Mark Niemann-Ross and welcome to this week's edition of Raspberry Pi Weekly. Every week we explore the Raspberry Pi and share useful tips. This project requires the connection of four parts. A moisture sensor, an MCP3008 analog to digital converter, a five-volt water pump and a TIP31 transistor. That's a lot but look back at previous Raspberry Pi sessions in this library, we've covered all of this before. Because we only have five minutes, refer to the handout for details on how to connect these parts. I'm using the soil sensor from Velleman.
