- [Instructor] I've been using spreadsheet functions to illustrate some R programming concepts. And this week let's talk about the spreadsheet function called concatenate. And I've set up a text spreadsheet here, it's the words from the Jabberwocky poem. In cell B7 I've set up concatenate, and a range of A1 to F1. The result is shown in D7, and you can see that I only have the word, the. So concatenate doesn't exactly concatenate a range, it just picks out one number from the range. In cell B9 I've used concat, and then given it the same range, and you can see the result in D9. We get a little closer, but there aren't spaces in between the words. So it's directly mushing all of these words together, which is true, it's concatenation. The proper way to use concatenate to produce a string is shown in B11. And what you can see is concatenate, a parentheses, A1, followed by a space, followed by B1, followed by another…
