Incorporate relationship building elements
- One of the biggest mistakes a leader can make during the kickoff meeting is focusing so much on tasks, schedules, milestones, and deliverables that they forget to prioritize people and relationships. Particularly in our increasingly virtual and hybrid work environments, the kickoff meeting offers a unique opportunity to begin making the connections that the team can leverage throughout the life of the project. Let me share a quick example. Years ago, I facilitated a strategy session for a client's team of about 50 people.
