- [Instructor] We had a lot of fun exploring arithmetic and geometric progressions and learned useful formulas for calculating the sum of the first n terms. When we calculate the sum of the finite sequence, we'll call it a partial sum of a finite series. For example, if I have a sequence of the first six odd numbers, that is one, three, five, seven, nine, 11, then the partial sum will be equal to 36. We can easily calculate it by heart or using the formula we've learned in the previous lesson. So, Sn, where a one equals one, n equals six, d equals two, so S six equals 36.
