- [Instructor] In this video, I will expand upon the concepts you learned with the binomial distribution to show you the negative binomial distribution. The negative binomial distribution works with discrete random variables where there are only two possible values that are denoted with a one for success, and a zero for failure. This is for one or more Bernoulli trials. This time though, the distribution determines how many failures will occur before a certain number of successes have occurred. So this is different than before, where it focus on the successes. You can differentiate the binomial distribution from the negative binomial distribution by remembering the binomial distribution focuses on the total number of successes in a fixed number of trials, regardless of the order they occur. This differs from the negative binomial distribution where you are focusing on how many trials, and hence failures must occur before a certain number of successes are reached. The negative binomial…
