- [Instructor] In this video, I will expand upon the concepts you learned with the negative binomial distribution to show you the geometric distribution. The geometric distribution works with discrete random variables where there are only two possible values that are denoted with a one for success and a zero for failure. This is for one or more Bernoulli trials. This time though, the distribution will only look at the first time a success occurs. The geometric distribution is represented by the following variables. K represents the trial number where the first success occurs. P represents the probability of success. And one minus P represents the probability of failure. The geometric distribution is represented by the following probability mass function, where the probability of X equaling K is equal to one minus P to the K minus one multiplied by P.
