Bayesian probability: History
- [Narrator] In probability, there are two main approaches, Frequentist and Bayesian. In this chapter, you'll focus on learning about Bayesian Probability and some of its key aspects. Let's begin by exploring the history behind Bayesian Probability. The history of Bayesian Probability began back in the 1700s and has gone in and out of favor over the years. Even though this probability methodology was named after one mathematician, it has actually, taken the contributions of several mathematicians over the years to build it into the full methodology it is today. Bayesian Probability, and in turn Bayes Theorem, was named after English mathematician, Thomas Bayes. He performed research with conditional probability in the 1700s where he provided an algorithm that uses evidence to calculate limits of an unknown parameter. This led to what is now called Bayes Theorem. Bayes' most famous work an essay towards solving a problem in the Doctrine of Chances was published in 1763 by his friend…
