Bayes' theorem
- [Instructor] Let's take some time to learn about Bayes's Theorem. Bayes's Theorem helps update the probability of a hypothesis when new evidence is acquired. Named after Thomas Bayes, this theorem is a core part of Bayesian probability. Bayes's Theorem relates to conditional probability of an event A given B to the conditional probability of B given A, the probability of A and the probability of B. It essentially combines prior knowledge with new data to provide a revised probability estimate for event A. This is what creates what is known as Bayes's Formula. Bayes's Formula is represented by the following equation, where you have probability of A given B, equal to the probability of B given A, multiplied by the probability of A, divided by the probability of B.
