- [Instructor] Let's say we have a scatter plot, showing the dependent variable on the Y-axis and the independent variable on the X-axis. The points in the scatter plot help us visualize the relationship between them. To quantify the relationship in a two-dimensional space, we can put a straight best fit line through it, using a linear regression model. And a linear regression model with one independent variable against the dependent variable, we can illustrate the relationship in a two-dimensional scatter plot. The formula behind this best fit line is one where the predicted Y value equals the intercept, plus the slope coefficient of the X variable, multiplied by the X values in the data.
