- The final stage of managing FOMO is learning how to miss out on something. After all, FOMO is the fear of missing out, so embracing the idea of missing out is essential. To do that, you're going to need to silence the little voice in your head that whispers don't miss out. You can do that with mindfulness. Here's how it works. Mindfulness is a mental state in which you focus your awareness on the present moment instead of the little voice in your head, the one that tells you to worry. When that little voice is silent, you are present in the moment, and that is the opposite of FOMO.
