Avoid the comparison trap

- Have you been guilty of comparing yourself to someone else? I admit it can be really difficult avoiding the comparison trap, especially with social media being such a huge part of our day-to-day lives. While comparing ourselves to our peers can seem like a natural benchmarking tool, it does more harm than good. It's called a trap for a reason. When we start comparing ourselves to others, we get stuck in a negative loop of emotions and thoughts. When we see our peers get promotions, join new companies, or land big deals, you may feel jealous, defeated, or stressed, but the only person you should try to be better than is a past version of you. Everyone is on their own unique journey and we have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. If you find yourself falling victim to the comparison trap, redirect your attention inward on your own goals and personal development. Focus on how you're improving and progressing. You can also try genuinely celebrating others' successes. It's a wonderful way to turn those negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones. I have found time and time again that, when we can authentically support one another, good things come back around to you later.
