How to think on your feet with confidence

- Here's how to think on your feet with confidence at work. Follow my very simple golden rule to help you in those moments. You'd rather be approximately right than precisely wrong. So for example, if you're being asked something and you have approximately the right answer, maybe it's 20%, maybe it's 25%, go ahead and answer, you're close enough. That said, if you really have no clue what the answer is and whatever you share is going to come out of left field, then don't answer right then and there. Instead, you want to buy yourself a little bit of time and you could respond with something like this: Thank you so much for your question. I do really want to confirm the information on that with you. So I'm going to take that back, look into it right after today's meeting and I will get it back to you by the end of the day. Does that work for you? This last part is going to maintain your credibility and professionalism and not lead you to have to backpedal from something that you didn't want to say in the first place. You've got this.
