Conflict management at work

- If the thought of handling conflict at work makes you want to hide under a rock, I get it. So let's break it down together. There's really three key situations at work where you're going to need to address conflict head on. Number one is if the conflict is happening with someone directly in your team who you have to work with on a day-to-day basis. Number two is if it's a conflict that runs the risk of negatively impacting your perception or reputation within the company. And number three is if it's a conflict that continues to happen, especially if it's with the same person. So use the simple three parts structure that's going to help you address conflict in a way that promotes collaboration instead of confrontation. I completely understand that things are really busy right now and that you have a lot on your plate and my goal is to support you as best as possible in that. That said, when we had our meeting yesterday and I was bringing up certain questions around this part of the project, I found that the tone that you shared back with me was a little bit disrespectful in terms of what I was trying to get across. And knowing that we're working so closely together on this, I do believe it's important that we respect one another and be a little bit more open-minded in our communication instead of dismissive. Moving forward, if there is something that's on your mind or frustrating you, I'd rather that you be direct with me about it so that we can have an open conversation about that and not have a negative tone come through in these types of meetings. Do you see where I'm coming from on that? This last part is really essential, because you do need to get their buy-in as to where you're coming from and make sure that it won't happen again in the future. And this is also a great way to advocate for yourself, so you let them know what you're willing to tolerate and not tolerate moving forward.
