- [Instructor] Like a lot of software, you don't need to know how Appium works in order to use it. However, it's important to know at least a little bit about how Appium is designed to avoid confusion as we're getting started. Appium is actually a collection of a number of different components. The most basic and important distinction to make in the world of Appium is between the Appium Server and the Appium Clients. There is just one Appium Server whereas there are a number of different Clients. One or more for each programming language that can be used to write Appium tests. This Client-Server architecture is the secret behind much of Appium's awesomeness. First of all, with Appium, you can write tests in any language you want. Your job is to write automated tests for your mobile app, but what programming language do you like? If you like Java, you're in luck because that's the language we'll be using in this course.
