- [Instructor] Yammer is a product where it's hard to separate the tech from its culture. Yammer was an independent company that was purchased by Microsoft. And one of the things that was a critical value for Yammer was that they had a culture where they expected people to work out loud. That there was an encouragement that everything that was done, be done very publicly. The idea being that somebody might browse through some of the work you were doing and have some good ideas that might help you. One of the results of that is that many organizations that use Yammer allow employees to create whatever new communities they think need to exist. With this great freedom comes responsibility so that you don't make Yammer less useful to everybody else. You don't want to create a community if you are the only person who's interested in something. So you do a little bit of work before you actually create any new communities here…
