Three Cs of communication

Being a great communicator is a key to everything. I mean, social media, speeches, emails, and, in fact, it's how I got my job at YouTube and Instagram, became a writer for Forbes and Time magazine, and even got ranked by NPR alongside Oprah and Steve Jobs as a top commencement speaker. So in this course, I'm going to uncover how to become a better communicator by getting more people to pay attention to you and pay for your products, period. So let's start off with a three C's template where you'll learn how to be clearer, more confident, and more concise with your communication. The first C stands for Clear. So many bad writers hide behind big words. So don't say words like competencies, just say skills. Don't say leverage, just say use. The second C is for Confident, and you wouldn't believe how many people undermine their own authority without realizing it. So cut any non definitive words like sometimes, maybe, I think. The third C stands for Concise. And I like to follow these three rules of thumb. Number 1, no more than 25 words in a sentence. Number 2, no more than three sentences in a paragraph. And Number 3, oh my God, this is my biggest pet peeve, avoid double descriptions. For example, instead of saying the room was clean and tidy, you could just say the room was clean. Don't be redundant, we get the point, move on. And in terms of formatting, look at these two pieces of writing. Which one is more enjoyable to read? Obviously, the second one, it's more digestible. Your mind has decided that before you even read the content. And this is especially true in today's world where we read so much on our phone.
