The three Ss template
Another great way to brainstorm strong hooks or openings is the three S's template, which stands for Superlative, Secret, and Scary. I'll explain here in a second, but these are thought starters for headlines or opening lines that speaks to emotions that people tend to stop and think about. I mean, you could literally insert your industry or niche in any of these blanks in this template. So let's walk through a few examples. For superlatives, these are headlines that are about the best or the worst. Because let's be honest, as a society, we tend to talk about that a lot. So you could say the world's worst advice about blank. So let's say you're a career coach, right? Then you could write about the world's worst advice about how to get promoted, which by doing so, you establish your expertise on the topic by myth-busting and talking about some of the advice that people think is true and good but it's actually not. Or you could fill in another blank and you got the best career tips you've never heard of, and so forth. For the second S, you have headlines that reveal the unknown. So the hidden truth about blank, or Little-known ways to blank. And, again, just fill in your niche or industry. And the last S stands for Scary, which is headlines and hooks that are meant to build a little bit of intrigue or fear. And you could do the untold dangers of blank, or the biggest mistakes about blank that you didn't know you are making. And as a final step, you could actually use these two awesome free tools to analyze your headline on a scale of 1 to 10. The first link is here, and the second link is here. And better yet than just analyzing your headlines, they actually tell you how to improve it too.
