When are maps created?
- User experience maps are a way to visually describe the data that acts as input to your product development process. There's a type of map for pretty much every part of the development process, from early exploratory research, through to product specification. Before you start building a product, you need to know what users' needs are, what pain points they have. I've found that a great way to synthesize your early observational research is to create an experience map. This type of map is designed for use in the team as a place to share detailed data about user actions, goals, and feelings, at each stage of the process that your product will support. It's a place to share and discuss all the findings from the observational research sessions that the team performs. This map is low fidelity, messy, and full of great insights.
