Finishing strong
- When you come to finishing your talk, the big rule is never go over time. People hate it if you go over, even by a few minutes. I don't know why this is, but it just seems to be the case. People hate it. You must never go over time. So this means that, ideally, what you would do is you'd have a half-way kind of milestone. The time at which you need to be at that point, and, maybe, another one 3/4. You need to be at that point by a certain time. And, if you are running late, you can then have a section that you can miss out. Have a little bit you can miss out if you have to or a bit you can do more quickly if you have to. Perhaps a story that you'll miss out, or you won't be quite so interactive with the audience. So you need to plan something quite near the end that you can miss out if you have to. And then, a final thought about finishing is it mustn't be sudden. You don't want to suddenly dump them off the end of a cliff when your talk suddenly stops. So the best way to do this is…
