Effectively using visuals
- My next tip is to make sure that your talk is visual. You absolutely must have some sort of visual aid, very hard to do a talk with nothing for the audience to look at apart from you. And ideally, rather than just bullet points coming up, which is okay sometimes, but often, you would have a picture as well of some sort, and not just some meaningless clip art, but actually some useful picture that illustrates your point. So picture as well as bullets. And then, illustrate your point with real examples. So rather than dry abstract concepts, it's much better to give a story or a real example and show a photo. So rather than just, when you go to Australia, look out for dangerous animals. Clearly, it's much better to show some snakes and some spiders, the more visual it is, the better. And stories are good as well. So if you can actually tell a real story of something that happened, that will bring your talk to life and make it visual in people's heads.
