Defining a problem statement
- [Instructor] Before defining a Problem Statement, it is essential to understand the user needs and pain points. This is achieved through primary and secondary user research, which happens in the first phase of Design Thinking process, which is called as the Empathize phase. Consider this as the foundation of your Design Thinking process. The synthesized data from the research is then used to understand the core user needs and pain points which becomes a Problem Statement. A Design Problem Statement is essentially a concise description of an issue to be addressed or a condition to be improved upon. A well-defined Problem Statement will help measure the quality of our ideas and the solutions. It will tell us if we're solving the problem or just coming up with interesting concepts. With a solid foundation of the Empathize and Define phase, you can then start brainstorming ideas and solutions. Then, it is time to translate these ideas into digital form. It is of utmost importance that data searched and Problem Statement is solid and the entire team, including the stakeholders, are on the same page before you move to the phase of creating wireframes. When I was on my own building design solutions, I would spend more time on the research and analysis to explain my ideas to my friends and family. As a UX designer, communicating ideas and thoughts in the simplest way is a very important skill. So, if you are building your own designs, take help from your loved ones. Everyone will definitely have some feedback. Now, gather all of your design material, and let's begin.
