Use smbclient to test shares
- [Instructor] In the previous video, we used the smbclient command to list our shares. This is a good first step to ensuring your Samba server is working. We can also use it to log in to the share and utilize it's ftp like interface to read and write files. Smbclient has many options. Let's take a look at a few. Dash capital L list services available on the server. Dash capital N suppresses the normal password prompt. This is useful when logging in as a guest. Dash k is used to log in using Kerberos. Dash capital A specifies a credentials file to authenticate with. That would include a username and password. Dash capital U sets a username to login as. One can append % followed by the password to the user name. If percent password isn't appended, then the user is prompted. Dash d denotes the debug or log level. The level is a number between zero and 10. At level zero, only critical errors are logged. The default is one. Dash capital T is used to create a tar archive of all files in…
