- [Instructor] CentOS 2, a clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or RHEL, came out it 2004. Since CentOS is a clone of RHEL, each version tracks the resepective RHEL version. CentOS 7.2 equals RHEL 7.2. When a new version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux comes out, the same version of CentOS will be out soon after. It's important to understand RHEL and CentOS version numbers. For RHEL 7.2, the major version is seven and the minor version is two. CentOS also has a date stamp in its name. RHEL 7.2 might be CentOS7.2-1511, built in the 11th month of 2015. Minor updates can be preformed with a a simple update command. Major updates, such as version seven to version eight, will take a reinstall. If you plan on installing on physical hardware, you will need one gigabyte of RAM, five to 10 gigabytes of disk space, a network card if you plan on networking, a 64 bit Intel or AMD processor, keyboard, mouse, monitor, a DVD…
