- Yeah, so if you're a data scientist right now, and you're interested in managing and leading people and leading teams, I would say start small, start with a small project. You know, if you have a one-off project that you can work on a handful of hours a week and gather a small team together, that's a really good way to get into the process of understanding timelines and how to distribute work, and how to answer the questions that you need to. Beyond that, you know, to get into management, I would say it's really important to practice your skills of talking about your work, and so stepping outside of the technical work that you do. Obviously the technical piece is important, because when you're doing a peer review or trying to explain to somebody that understands the in and outs of your job, you need to make sure you're grounded and know what you're saying. But when you're explaining it to, you know, somebody in sales or on the marketing team, they don't care how you got to the solution. What they care about is the solution itself. And so really getting out there and just talking and learning about other parts of the business will help get you further.
