- [Instructor] We've spent a lot of time so far using the desktop environment, but there's another important way of interacting with our system too. That's the terminal or command line environment. In modern Linux desktop environments, it's entirely possible to avoid using the command line interface for a lot of tasks but as you learn a bunch of, it's good to be at least a little familiar with a command line environment, if only so you don't think of it as scary. In fact, the terminal is your friend. The terminal is a program that runs a shell, in this case, one called Bash, which accepts text input and provides text output. This interface is often called the command line interface, and we can use it to control the system, to work with data, and to do all kinds of other things. We saw the terminal very briefly before.
