- [Instructor] Thumb drives, external hard drives, and to a limited extent these days, optical storage like CDs and DVDs, are all pretty common ways of moving files between computers. Let's take a look at using USB drive in the GNOME desktop environment. I've switched back over to my PC and I'll plug in a USB thumb drive. When the disc is detected, it shows up here in the dock and the desktop sends me a notification that I can click to choose what to do with the disc. Or I can click on it here in the dock. If you're using a native install, your drive should connect automatically like mine did. If you're using VirtualBox, you'll need to attach the disc manually using the little USB devices control but you may also need to make some changes to how the USB devices are attached in the settings for the machine.
