- [Narrator] In order to use Ubuntu natively, that is, to have it be the only operating system running at a time on a computer, we'll need to make an installation or boot disk, and nowadays, that usually comes in the form of a USB hard drive or a thumb drive. If you plan to install Ubuntu directly on a computer, let's take a moment to create an installer on a USB thumb drive. For this purpose, we'll want to use a USB drive that's four gigabytes or larger. Making an install disk will erase everything on the disk we plan to use. So when you choose a drive to use, make sure that it doesn't contain anything you want to save. We'll take similar steps depending on whether we're using a Windows system or a Mac. And for both, we'll need the Ubuntu installer ISO file we downloaded earlier.
