Sequences: Your movie's heartbeat
- [Instructor] From ideas, to beats, to scenes. From bricks, to walls, to rooms. Our next metaphorical unit of construction isn't an entire building, we're not quite there yet, but a floor in that building known as the sequence. It builds on the three act structure to help you reveal or create the overall rhythm of your story. Rhythm, what is this, a screenplay or a symphony? Well, a good screenplay is a symphony, of sotto voce, crescendos, themes, and finales. If your movie doesn't involve the audience's viscera with a pulse of intensity that builds, surprises, peaks and satisfies, your brilliant scenes won't matter. We're back to beginning, middle and end, but on a whole new level. The tentpoles of your sequences are the act breaks.
