- [Instructor] To take this course, you do not need to have any prior knowledge of Java or programming. But keeping that in mind, you won't learn everything about Java. This course will give you a good introduction and foundation to the Java programming language, that can take you to more advanced Java courses and projects. This is also a great course if you want to refresh your Java fundamentals. You should be aware that there will be a few things you'll download to your computer, but all you need to start is a computer and an excitement to learn Java. In this course, we'll be using Java 17, the latest long term support release from Oracle. This means that Java 17 will be supported for a really long time, up to eight years. Now technically, Java gets a new release every six months, but these are non long term support releases. They are only supported for six months, until the next non long term support release. For this reason, we'll be using Java 17, which will be supported with extended support until September, 2029. Now, if you're still stressing about the Java version you're using and whether it's correct, don't worry. Most of the beginner and foundational features that we'll be covering in this course have existed in Java unchanged for a really long time. This means, even if you're using a slightly older or newer version of Java, you should be all right, because we're sticking with the basics. As you continue to grow in your Java skills, the features released in new Java versions will become more relevant. With that out of the way, let's get started.
