Welcome to natural language processing with R

- [Mark] There is an astounding amount of information in the world, with more being created every minute. Much of that information is stored as unstructured human language. For example, social media users alone account for at least 500,000 sentences every minute. That's more information than any one person can read, much less research or draw conclusions from. Here's where natural language processing can help. By teaching a computer to recognize parts of human language, we can use it to give us insights and summaries of the obvious, or hiddenm meaning, behind the words. Natural language processing, put simply, is using computers to perform research on human languages. That isn't to say NLP will teach computers to understand human languages, only that they might be able to make observations about those languages. Welcome to Introduction to Natural Language Processing using R. In this course, we'll use the R programming language to implement natural language processing algorithms. R is uniquely adept at manipulating matrices and producing statistics, both of which are core to NLP. I'm Mark Neimann-Ross, and I'm excited to travel with you on this journey. So let's get started with natural language processing using R.
