GPT-3 could generate text, and we saw earlier that it does a great job of it. The only problem is it doesn't follow instructions. GPT-3.5 was an upgrade on GPT 3 by allowing language models to better follow instructions using supervised fine-tuning and RLHF or reinforcement learning with human feedback. You might remember these terms from the first couple of videos of this course. This is when language models try to respond to prompts like human labelers. ChatGPT is fine-tuned from GPT 3.5 and was further optimized for dialogue so you could use it like a chatbot. ChatGPT can also do other things like helping programmers write programming code.
