- When you hear the words, sustainable supply chain, do you automatically think of carbon emissions? Whilst obviously emissions play a huge role, sustainability in supply chain is so much more. Take Disney, for example, energy and emissions make up a third of their strategy. The other two thirds being water conservation and waste reduction, two focus areas that wouldn't necessarily spring to mind as an outsider. But, in fact, these initiatives have allowed Disney to achieve incredible results with practices, including special funnel equipped recycling cans to collect liquid waste, and collection of 20 different commodities to achieve a 99.8% landfill waste diversion rate. Food scraps and oils from their parks are mixed with biosolids to create biogas, which then creates electricity and fertilizer. Ultimately, meaning the park is then powered according to the principles of the circular economy. Disney didn't make assumptions…
