课程: Fixed Income Fundamentals

Course introduction

- My name is Andrew Loo, and I'm the Director of Capital Markets here at CFI. I'd like to welcome you to the Fixed Income Fundamentals course. Having a solid understanding of how bonds work, why companies issue them, and why investors purchase them is very important for anyone that works in capital markets. As a financial analyst, it's critical to have a thorough understanding of fixed income markets when we move onto more advanced topics, such as convertible bonds and credit fixed income. In this course, I'll introduce what is fixed income and what is a bond. I'll also explain who buys bonds, who issues them, and describe the bond market as a whole. Together we'll examine the concepts of yield, coupon, and day-count, as well as look at the yield curve and credit spreads. Then I'll show you how we derive the price of a bond, and the relationship between price and yield. Lastly, we're going to study how bonds react to changes in yields by learning about duration and convexity. Throughout this course, you'll be watching video lectures, participating in interactive exercises and practicing bond math to calculate price, duration, and convexity in case studies. At the end of the course, you'll take a qualified assessment to test what you've learned. This course will build the foundational knowledge needed for more advanced fixed income topics in our later courses.
